The project to revitalise the Bishop’s Park at Abergwili with the County Museum at its heart has taken another significant step forward with the formation of the Tywi Gateway Trust as an independent charity.
The project was set up by the Carmarthenshire Branch of the Welsh Historic Gardens Trust in response to the County Council’s vision of “a park and museum for all” and the Tywi Gateway project aims to achieve an integrated approach to what both Park and Museum offer to their community, as well as audiences further afield.
In the words of Jean Reader, the Chairman of the Welsh Historic Gardens Trust, “we’re seeking support for this nascent project that will demonstrate that the public and charitable sectors, working together, can safeguard for public benefit the future of assets that, separately, are in danger of being permanently lost to the heritage of Wales”.
With the active support of the Council and under the leadership of founder trustees Judith Holland, Sally Moss, Andrew Hesford and Alan Wilson, the priority now is to seek a further grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to support the delivery of this potentially ground-breaking project.
