Role in the park: Head Gardener

Background: Blue started working as an assistant gardener in October of 2023, after being made redundant from a previous job. Due to the previous head gardener leaving, Blue was later able to step up to the role of head gardener. Before working at the park, he is ashamed to admit he has never been to Carmarthen Museum in the 18 years that he has lived here, but is glad that he now is able to be here often

Favourite part about working here: Blue mentions he enjoys the variety that comes with his role as there’s “a good variety of stuff here, like the meadowland, the woodland, the parkland and of course the garden” The project he’s currently working towards is the plot of land which they will turn into allotments, hoping it will become a space where “people can go to grow food, either for themselves, or people who they know want fresh food, for instance a local care home, or schools across Carmarthen.” He also finds great importance in the benefits of being outdoors and is glad that the park is a place where people can come to relieve stress and clear their heads, as he mentions working in the park has allowed him to be surrounded by nature, which he sees as a fundamental part of what makes him happy.
